Welcome to Kananaskis Country
Often referred to by locals as "K-Country," Kananaskis is a vast system of provincial parks nestled in the Canadian Rockies' front ranges. While its famous neighbor, Banff, often draws the international crowds, Kananaskis offers a more rugged, tranquil, and authentic mountain experience. It’s a place where jagged limestone peaks meet turquoise alpine lakes, and the wildlife often outnumbers the visitors.

What to Do in Kananaskis
Whether you're visiting for your Spring Fling 2026 or any other season, the region is a year-round playground for adventure and relaxation.

Hiking & Scrambling - From the family-friendly Grassi Lakes and Barrier Lake trails to the legendary (and challenging) Tent Ridge Horseshoe, there are thousands of kilometers of trails.

Water Adventures - Barrier Lake: The perfect spot for stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), kayaking, or a scenic picnic by the shore.
Upper & Lower Kananaskis Lakes: These massive, glacier-fed lakes offer stunning boat launches and a paved loop trail perfect for a long afternoon stroll or bike ride.

Relaxation at the Nordic Spa - Located at the Kananaskis Mountain Lodge, the Kananaskis Nordic Spa is a "must-do." You can cycle through hot pools, steam rooms, and cold plunges—all while surrounded by a pine forest and mountain views.

Wildlife Watching - K-Country is prime habitat for grizzly bears, black bears, moose, elk, and bighorn sheep.

Winter & Shoulder Season Sports - Nakiska Ski Resort: Originally built for the 1988 Olympics, it offers great downhill skiing.
Canmore Nordic Centre: A world-class venue for cross-country skiing in the winter and mountain biking in the summer.

Note for 2026: If you're visiting in the spring, remember that a Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required for all vehicles parking within the park.
