Welcome to Johnstown Landing. This public access to the Bras d'or Lake was officially opened in June of 2017.
The landing is considered an access point to the 377 km paddling route referred to as the Bras d'or Water Route. It includes a launching point for canoes, kayaks and small boats and is located directly across from Sacred Heart Parish. The federal government invested $7,200 in the landing, while the Trans Canada Trail provided $2,200 for site improvements.
The approach here isn't great, but it'll get the job done for a canoe, kayak, or small boat. The concrete pad should be extented a few more feet.
Have a read of the interpretive sign here which has info on the "Great Trail", the Bra d'or Lake Biosphere, and the history of local settlements in the area.
Don't assume the cardinal direction pointers on top of the sign post are pointing in the right direction. The sign does turn in the wind!
