Welcome to Farragut State Park—a place where history and nature meet in an unexpected way.
During World War II, this peaceful forest was transformed into one of the largest naval training stations in the world—and the farthest landlocked naval training base ever built by the U.S. Navy.
Here, thousands of recruits trained for life at sea… without ever seeing the ocean.
Instead, they trained on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille, whose deep, cold waters made it ideal for naval exercises. At its peak, over 50,000 sailors lived and trained here at one time, turning this area into a bustling military city practically overnight.
As you search for this cache, take a moment to imagine:
The sound of marching boots echoing through the trees
Recruits drilling in formation where trails now wind
A full naval base operating in the mountains of Idaho
The cache is placed with respect to this history—no need to disturb the surroundings. Please stay on established paths and help preserve the area for others.
