About North Haven
North Haven Railway Station sits on the historic Outer Harbor line, one of South Australia’s oldest and most significant rail corridors.
- The Outer Harbor railway line first opened in 1856, originally connecting Adelaide to Port Adelaide, making it one of the earliest railway lines in the country.
- The extension through to Outer Harbor was completed in 1915, improving access to the growing port facilities and coastline.
- The station we know today as North Haven originally opened in 1973 under the name Yerlo Railway Station, before later being renamed to reflect the surrounding suburb and marina development.
Today, the line is part of the Adelaide suburban rail network, running from the Adelaide Railway Station out to the coast. What was once a vital freight and port-access route has evolved into a commuter line, though it still carries echoes of its industrial past.
Stand here for a moment and you might catch a glimpse of that history—modern trains gliding along tracks first laid in the 19th century, connecting city and sea just as they have for generations.
