Geocache Description:

Happy Easter! Nothing is hidden at the posted coordinates but they are a good place to park. The cache is less than 2 miles away in the Woodchuck Hill conservation area.

I came up for this idea on Easter Monday, the day after Easter, when I had the day off from work. The Easter season had me thinking about the famed Polynesian island, Easter Island. No, I have never been to Easter Island, but I've long been fascinated by their massive head sculptures carved by the native Rapa Nui people.

Here are some facts about the gigantic sculptures:

1. Many modern archeologists helped restore the sculptures as late as the 1990s.

2. One particular sculpture, known as El Gigante, has been measured at almost 72 feet.

3. About 900–1,000 sculptures have been uncovered so far, with many more probably still buried.

4. In 1722, Dutchman Jacob Roggeveen was the first European to discover these sculptures, and he did so on Easter Sunday– that's how the island got its name!
