About Draper

Draper Railway Station sits on the historic Outer Harbor line, one of South Australia’s oldest and most significant rail corridors.

  • The Outer Harbor railway line first opened in 1856, linking Adelaide to Port Adelaide and forming one of Australia’s earliest railways.
  • The extension through to Outer Harbor was completed in 1915, strengthening access to the coastline and port facilities.
  • The exact opening date of Draper station is unknown, adding a touch of mystery to its history.

An unsourced report suggests the name Draper may have originated from a drapery business that once operated nearby—an echo of the local commerce that often shaped station names in the early days of the railway.

Unlike some former stops along the line, Draper remains an active station today, continuing to serve passengers as trains move between the city and the coast.

Stand here and you get a sense of that quiet continuity—less about grand history, more about the steady, ongoing rhythm of everyday travel.
