Wineycock Wood is awash with wood anemones and bluebells during the spring. Close to the cache is a long-forgotten, abandoned wagon that would have been used to transport timber out of the woods.
The cache is located at the top of a large depression, which is rumoured to be a WWII bomb crater. Bombs are known to have fallen in the area in June 1940. An alternative explanation could be that the hole was excavated to mine chalk; there are several similar workings nearby.
