The Wizarding World Geocache Series
"Upon the signature of the International Statute of Secrecy in 1689, wizards went into hiding for good. It was natural, perhaps, that they formed their own small communities within a community."
— The secrecy surrounding the wizarding world
The Wizarding World, also referred to as the magical community, is the society in which wizards and witches live and interact, separate from non-wizarding society. The two communities are kept separate through the use of charms, spells, and secrecy. Wizards and witches are forbidden to reveal anything about magic to Muggle society due to the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, but that does not mean that the two worlds live entirely apart.

"He led Harry off the edge of the lawn, through a clump of trees, and down toward the Quidditch pitch. It was a smooth, grassy field, with rows of seats rising in tiers around it so that spectators were high enough to see what was going on. At either end of the field were three long poles with hoops on the end..."

Quidditch is a magical sport played on broomsticks by two teams of seven players. The game takes place on an oval field with three hoop-shaped goals at each end. The team with the most points at the end of the match wins.
The Balls and Scoring
Four balls are used during a match:
- The Quaffle: A red, soccer-ball-sized ball. Scoring a goal through one of the opponent's hoops with this ball earns 10 points.
- The Bludgers: Two heavy, black iron balls. They fly around automatically, trying to knock players off their brooms.
- The Golden Snitch: A tiny, gold ball with silver wings. It flies incredibly fast and actively hides from players. Catching it earns 150 points and instantly ends the game.
The Player Positions
Each team consists of seven players with distinct roles:
- Three Chasers: They pass the Quaffle and try to throw it through the hoops to score(s).
- One Keeper: The goalie who flies in front of the hoops to block the Chasers' shots(s).
- Two Beaters: They carry small bats to hit the dangerous Bludgers away from their teammates and toward their opponents
.
- One Seeker: Their sole job is to spot and catch the Golden Snitch
The Hogwarts Quidditch Cup is an annual sports championship held at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry between the four school houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin.
The house that finishes the season with the highest cumulative total of points wins the tournament and is awarded the physical silver Quidditch Cup trophy.
Tournament Format
- Six Matches: The season consists of six round-robin matches where every house plays against each of the other three houses once.
- Point Accumulation: Unlike standard sports where wins and losses are the only metric, the standings are determined by the total number of points scored across all three games played by a house.
- The Decider: Because catching the Golden Snitch awards 150 points, a team can theoretically lose a match but still win the overall Quidditch Cup if their point total from previous matches remains higher than their opponents.
