About SideTracked Caches
This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breathtaking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveler, but anyone else can go and find it, too. More Information can be found on the SideTracked Website.
This cache also qualifies for the Disappearing RR Blues bonus cache. This series highlights the railways of NW Oregon.
About Sunset Transit Center Station

Welcome to the Sunset Transit Center, a major hub on the MAX Blue and Red Lines. The MAX alignment climbs from Beaverton Transit Center alongside OR‑217, then swings west and enters a horseshoe‑curve tunnel beneath US‑26 to reach this station. After stopping here, the tracks weave through the highway interchange and continue east along US‑26 before entering the Robertson Tunnel toward Portland.
This station is one of the most complex pieces of engineering on the Westside MAX line—and one of the few stations built in an open trench.
Station Artwork
Westside Design Team (1998)
The design team worked with architects to highlight the area’s transition from rural landscape to high‑tech corridor.
Features include:
- Weathered‑steel “ribs” placed in the landscape like remnants of an earlier era
- An ornamental fence echoing the surrounding native grasses
- Two large grassy mounds at the east entrance, created from earth excavated during station construction
Station Facilities
- Free Park‑and‑Ride garage
- Multiple bus routes
- Station located in an open‑air trench
Access to the cache is easiest by MAX, bus, or by parking in the Park‑and‑Ride garage and walking. The cache is near a closed parking lot that once required payment.
