长期以来，坐落在珠海市中心的板樟山是一道巨大的天然屏障，将北部的香洲与南部的拱北隔断。1990年，板樟山隧道作为中国首条城市地面隧道正式通车，当时的国家领导人也参加了通车典礼。这条隧道让珠海从此拥有了南北畅通的中轴线，也改善了特区的投资环境。不过随着城市发展，原有的四车道已无法负荷繁忙的交通。2020年6月，隧道扩建工程完工，道路扩展至双向八车道。
与此同时，板樟山慢行隧道也同步启用了。隧道铺设了人行道与非机动车道，全长1.2公里，是目前全国最长的人行隧道。隧道内漆有蓝天白云彩绘，环境阴凉安静。CO在这里体验了一趟轻松舒适骑行旅程后，在隧道北端放置了宝盒一个，希望大家都有不错的体验~
For a long time, Banzhang Mountain, located in the center of Zhuhai, was a huge natural barrier between the north (Xiangzhou) and the south (Gongbei). In 1990, the Banzhang Mountain Tunnel opened as the first urban surface tunnel in China. National leaders attended its opening ceremony, marking a new era for Zhuhai’s development and its investment environment. However, as the city grew, the original four lanes could no longer handle the heavy traffic. In June 2020, a massive expansion was completed, widening the road to eight lanes.
Alongside this, the Banzhang Mountain Non-motorized Tunnel was also opened. At 1.2 kilometers long, it is currently the longest pedestrian tunnel in China. It features two dedicated paths for pedestrians, cyclists, and e-bike riders. Decorated with vibrant 3D sky murals, the tunnel offers a shady and quiet escape from the sun and noisy traffic.
