Geocache Description:

Take a moment to take in the views of Ben Bulben, Rosses Point Strand and Knocknarae from this spot along with Wild Atlantic Way.

For William Butler Yeats, such scenery was never just backdrop but a living presence. The natural beauty—particularly in the Sligo and Galway regions—fed his fascination with folklore, mysticism, and the thin veil between reality and the otherworld. One can easily imagine how the quiet stillness here might give rise to thoughts of wandering spirits or hidden faeries, themes that echo through his poetry.

Jack Butler Yeats, by contrast, might have been drawn to the movement within the landscape—the flicker of changing light across the mountains or the solitary figure walking a rural road. As a painter, he captured not only what he saw, but what he felt: the pulse and personality of the Irish countryside.

Even today, this scenery holds onto that dual sense of calm and mystery. It invites reflection, much as it did for the Yeats brothers, offering a place where imagination feels close to the surface and the ordinary world hints at something deeper.
