Geocache Description:

byop. no room for swag.

—-

Across from the stop sign, there’s a raised planter bed that never quite gets left alone by memory.

It used to matter more than it does now.

A little girl lived in the house right across the street. Every summer, like clockwork, she’d come out there with small hands and bigger plans, planting whatever she could get her hands on—flowers, herbs, anything that would take root fast enough for her to feel like she’d done something before the season ended.

She didn’t treat it like a project. It was just hers. That patch of soil was where she went when the day needed direction.

People in the neighborhood remember seeing her out there in the evenings, knees in the dirt, talking like she was negotiating with the ground itself. Nothing dramatic about it—just consistent. Like it was part of how the place stayed in order.

One summer she stopped showing up.

The garden didn’t get ripped out or replaced. It just… stayed. The structure remained, the soil left alone, like no one could decide what it was supposed to become after her.

Over time, things changed around it. People moved, routines shifted, but that planter bed kept holding on to what it was originally meant for.

There’s a small hollow space buried in there somewhere. Something she left behind without making a big deal about it. Not hidden like a secret, more like something she expected to come back for and didn’t get the chance to.

Now the story people pass around is simple: the garden still gets taken care of. Not by anyone you see. Flowers still show up when they shouldn’t, soil still gets turned when nobody’s around to do it.

Some say it’s just wind, or birds, or coincidence.

But the ones who’ve lived nearby long enough don’t argue about it anymore
