A Praia Formosa era um praia selvagem, onde as ondas moldavam as arribas e o areal livremente. Hoje é considerada, por muitos, como a melhor praia da região, destacando-se pelo seu areal abrigado das ventanias (nortadas) comuns no Oeste português.
Praia Formosa was once a wild beach, where the waves freely shaped the cliffs and the sandy area. Today, it is considered by many to be the best beach in the region, standing out for its sandy area sheltered from the strong northerly winds common in western Portugal.
Nos anos 40, esta praia teve as primeiras obras de reabilitação e em 1949, foi inaugurado o bar. Em 1952 foi aprovado a proposta da continuação da “construção para o lado Sul” desta praia.
In the 1940s, this beach underwent its first rehabilitation works, and in 1949, the bar was inaugurated. In 1952, the proposal to continue the "construction to the south side" of this beach was approved.
Em 2018, uns 70 anos depois das primeiras obras, esta praia voltou a ser alvo de melhoramentos, com o mesmo objectivo; o melhoramento das condições para os banhistas e a preservação e protecção da praia.
