Welcome to Pākuratahi Forest!
Part of the Remutaka cycle trail, the forest used to contain a railway line between the Wairarapa and Hutt in use between 1878-1955. Some artifacts are still in place including the spooky 73 metre long Pākuratahi Tunnel built in 1876 and various other metallic items rusting away in the bush.
Please be aware of the recent pest control measures if you are visiting with a dog.

To access the cache trails on the forest tracks, park at the end of Parkes Line Road near Maymorn Station and head up the steep hill. Most tracks are signposted and fairly easy to navigate. There usually is cell service but it does pay to take all the usual precautions when visiting the bush. Stay on the main trail to get to the tunnel and gum forest, turn right at the first track intersection to travel above the tunnel towards Mount Climbie or left at the same intersection to complete the Pondy Loop tracks.
Be sure to watch your step...
The cache is a screw top container. Steady Eddie, be careful when straying from the track after the walk uphill!
