Kirken blev i 1251 underlagt Løgumkloster som en foræring fra Kong Abel. Problemet var bare, at kongen ikke ejede kirken. Læs den særprægede historie, hvor selv paven, Gregor X, måtte træde til for at få de protesterende sognebørn kaldt til orden.
Kirken blev 1722 ændret, så den blev længere. Man brugte de middelalderlige granitkvadre forneden til vindueshøjde og afsluttede med mursten.
På nordsiden ses endu den gamle romanske mur.Kirkens indre er præget af varme og rolige farver, der skaber et hyggeligt og smukt rum. Seværdig er også vestpulpituret fra 1611 og nordpulpituret fra 1692 med bibelske billeder. "Burene" på nordpulpituret er fra 1822. De kunne lejes af sognets besiddende folk og gav indtægt til kirken derved.

The church was given to Løgumkloster in 1251 as a gift from King Abel. The only problem was that the king did not own the church. Read the unique story, where even the Pope, Gregory X, had to intervene to get the protesting child parishioners called to order.
The church was changed in 1722, so that it became longer. The medieval granite blocks were used at the bottom to window height and finished with bricks.
On the north side, you can still see the old Romanesque wall. The interior of the church is characterized by warm and calm colors, which create a cozy and beautiful space. Also worth seeing are the west pulpit from 1611 and the north pulpit from 1692 with biblical images. The "cages" on the north pulpit are from 1822. They could be rented by the parish's property owners and thus provided income for the church.
