This is a geocache planted by Skills 1 from Glasgow Clyde College (Cardonald Campus), this year we have been exploring Govan's history and in particular shipbuilding this has taken us to the following locations....
The Fairfield Shipyards was once the centre of shipbuilding in Govan and brought a lot of jobs to the area. Now a hertitage centre, Fairfield has a lot of information about ships and the history behind them. It's extordinary inside because it has a lot of artifacts from the olden days of industry when a boatship was useful and important. It's history about Govan and it's tram tracks show that there used to be have a tramline in Govan.
GalGael is a place that was opened around 1997 and has been there for 29 years. They do a lot of woodwork for example making boats, objects and crafts, etc. GalGael has a lovely and healthy garden with plants such as, fruits and vegetables, and they have a sauna in the garden!
Govan Old (within a former church) highlights that International shipbuildning connections in the form of viking raids and tombs from 795AD
Finally we came to this location the newest park in the city and site of one of the 'graving docks'. We look forward to seeing how this area continues to be restored!
