Severn Tunnel Junction is located on both the South Wales Main Line and the Gloucester to Newport line, situated between Caldicot and Newport (South Wales) stations. 2tph usually serve this station, with one between Taunton/Exeter St Davids and Cardiff Central, and one between Cheltenham Spa and Cardiff Central. Portsmouth Harbour to Cardiff Central services occasionally call here, as do early morning and late night services between Nottingham and Cardiff Central. A new service between London Paddington and Carmarthen is planned to operate here in the future.
Originally named Rogiet, Severn Tunnel Junction was opened in 1886 by the original Great Western Railway, the same year that the Severn Tunnel opened. Before the construction of the Severn Bridge, special trains transported cars from here to Pilning and back between 1924 and 1966. The large goods yard that was present near the station was moved to Newport in 1987. The South Wales Main Line was fully electrified from here to Cardiff in 2019. The station received modernised signage by the TOC in 2025.
