Welcome to Chi Chi Pin Qua Woods and Schiller Woods South. Che-Che-Pin-Qua Woods is a lush, 284-acre nature preserve located on the northwest side of Chicago and along the Des Plaines River Trail. The name translates to "blinking eyes," honoring Alexander Robinson (a prominent 19th-century Ottawa/Potawatomi leader) who had a facial tic
Things to know:
1. There is a creek that runs east-west and has some water in it most but not all the time. There are a couple ways across or around, including a bridge which is waypointed.
2. The Des Plaines River Trail parallels the river from Irving Park Road and passes along side the golf course to the far south.
3. The Des Plaines River Trail periodically floods, the appropriate attributes are identified on any cache that is in the floodplaine. Any cache significantly in the floodplaine is not at risk unless the tree topples.
4. South of the creek, there are a good number of hardpack trails. Many of the caches are not too far off these trails, others do require at least some bushwhacking. I hid most of these without bloodletting due to intrusive thorns. That being said, there are areas in which the thorns are dense. If you find yourself here, there may be a better path...or not.
5. The best place to park for these caches are at the two lots west of the model ailplane field.
6. Please, do not park at the lot people use for the well pump.
7. If you park at the model airplane lot, do not cross the open field if people are flying their crafts. In this area, when placing, I started east of the lot and circled / cached my way around until a exited near the pump.
8. If you are trying to access the tool required/recommended caches, make sure you return the caches to the branches they are intended to be on.
9. I did pick up a tick while hiding, please check yourselves periodically and when leaving the area.
10. Reminder that said trails do pass near caches, please be aware of your surrounding as muggles do pop up periodically.
11. Replace any cammo as intended.
12. Enjoy your adventure.
