Overview
Gaythorne railway station is located on the Ferny Grove line, serving the Brisbane suburb of Gaythorne. The station was built in 1916 and originally named Rifle Range Station, due to its close proximity to the Commonwealth Rifle Range in what is now Enoggera (Gallipoli) Army Barracks. It was built as an extension of the Ferny Grove line from Enoggera to service the new military camps established in the area during World War 1, such as Bells Paddock.
After the war, in 1923, a petition was circulated calling for the station's name to be changed to Gaythorne after the closure of the wartime camps.
The passenger station building is a place of local heritage significance, under the Heritage planning scheme policy of the Brisbane City Plan 2014. It is an intact timber building constructed within the design specifications of the government at the time, and as such is rare in Brisbane.

Waypoint 2 - Platform 2
Identify the vertical steel I-beam with ID "F 7 061". It is located just on the other side of the white fence (from the platform side), and has a small "Danger: High voltage live wires" warning affixed. At ground level (at a height of about 40 cm), there is a small steel plate beginning with "Top surface of marker is".
The "Kilometrage" is DKEFG.H (note the K is in the figure with five other digits).
