‘Market Harborough to Foxton, and back!’ is a trail of 33 geocaches + 1 bonus cache (placed after the trail) varying in difficulty, size, and scenery - it is approx 6 miles long. We wanted to do a trail which has a variety of cache types/sizes/difficulty ratings/attributes/terrain included, so here it is!
The trail begins on the canal near the top of the stairs just before you enter the Market Harborough Country Park, it then goes into the Country Park for a couple of caches before then going back onto the canal. We had originally wanted to start the trail from Union Wharf, but there are always so many boats stopped along the edge, plus there are peoples gardens too which back onto the canal! So we thought best not to start there. However, you can park at Union Wharf and walk along the canal to the stairs at the Country Park, or you could park on Logan Crescent and walk through the footpath leading to the canal to start from there.
The trail follows along the canal for the majority of the walk leading up to Foxton. Once at Foxton, it then carries on along a paved path surrounded by fields. It then goes onto another public footpath which passes Gartree Prison on the way back to Market Harborough. It will then pass through an estate and then end near the Country Park where you can go over the bridge and turn right down Leicester Road to get back to Union Wharf, or back through the Country Park and up steps to walk back along the canal.
The trail ends before the school on the estate - we looked through other streets to continue on but everywhere is very overlooked by houses. There is also a gap by the prison where we haven't placed any caches, for obvious reasons!!
We have included a picture to this cache page to show the route that the trail follows.
Happy caching!
