About 3 years ago, Lilyfrog04 and I hid a set of caches in this section of the Caswell Game Lands that we enjoy visiting. Today, we added a few more on a couple of side "roads" off the main path from the parking area.
Caches in this series with terrain ratings of 2.5 or less are within about 100' of a wide path/"road" that seems to be occasionally cleared (but could still be a bit or a lot overgrown in summer months). Some caches with terrain ratings of 3 or higher require bushwhacking of more (somtimes much more) than 100' that will vary in difficulty based on the time of year. Others are relatively near the path/"road" but require traversing a steep hill.
The caches are hidden in typical ways and shouldn't be too hard to find. Our numbers bounced quite a bit at some locations however, so it might be necessary to expand the search area a bit. We're providing fairly detailed hints so hopefully no one leaves with a DNF.
The parking area is accessible by taking Wildlife Rd off of Burton Chapel Rd.
Cell phone service might be poor or non-existent in this area, so I suggest downloading all the information you'll need in advance.
** CAUTION ** This cache is on game land. Please check the hunting season schedule to help decide when to search for this and take appropriate precautions (e.g. wearing blaze orange) while in this area.
The suggested route for doing all of the CGL series is:
Follow the path from "In the Beginning" toward "Hiding at the Crossroads", with a side trip along a path to "Slot Machine"
At "Hiding at the Crossroads", turn left and follow the path to "End of the Road"
Turn right and bushwhack through the valley near Benaja Creek to "Confluence"
Bushwhack up the (fairly steep) hill to "Hillside" and "Beneath the Quints"
Head back toward "Hiding at the Crossroads", but take the side path on the left to "Down Under"
Return to "Hiding at the Crossroads"
Take the trail to the left (opposite of the one that went to "End of the Road") to "Wedged In"
Return to "Hiding at the Crossroads"
Turn left and take the road back to parking.
