A "monkey suit" is slang for a man's formal suit or tuxedo. It is often used humorously or disparagingly to describe uncomfortable, stiff formal wear—like those worn to weddings or fancy parties—or, less commonly, to describe uniforms or overalls.....

I saw some online references/definitions of monkey suit related to military uniforms....I doubt those apply to the CAF.  Most soldiers attending formal dinners or weddings, including their own, will opt to wear their 'dress kit'. That 'kit' is far superior to any suit or tux for soldiers.....! The women I worked with at CF DUNDURN used to laugh and say that even the most unattractive soldier looks great in their dress uniform!
