SLOVENSKO:
ENGLISH:
Welcome to Sveti Ožbolt, one of the most scenic hilltops on the edge of the Škofja Loka and Polhov Gradec hills. At an elevation of 859 meters, the picturesque Church of St. Oswald has watched over the Hrastnica Valley and the surrounding villages for centuries.
According to local legends and folk tradition, this hill was considered a special place even before Christianity, when people are said to have gathered here to admire nature and the remarkable views. Later, the summit became a pilgrimage destination, and visitors today are still impressed by the peaceful atmosphere and panoramic views stretching toward Lubnik, Blegoš, Stari Vrh, and, on clear days, even the Julian Alps.
The first chapel on this site was mentioned as early as 1291, while the present church dates back to the 16th century. Its late Gothic presbytery bears the year 1527, reflecting the long and rich history of this remote hilltop. The church is dedicated to Saint Oswald, an English king and saint who is regarded as the protector of travelers and farmers.
This geocache invites you to pause for a moment, enjoy the silence, take in the views, and explore the hidden corners around the church. Be sure to notice the peaceful meadows and isolated farms that give this place its unique character.
Good luck with your search, and enjoy one of the most charming viewpoints above Škofja Loka!
