Ahoy there, mateys! Captain Barnacle Pete be recruitin’ brave adventurers fer another grand voyage across the lands o’ Clipston, Northamptonshire! While rummaging through a dusty musical treasure chest aboard his ship, the captain uncovered a bundle of crumbling hymn sheets, rusted tuning forks, and a curious journal tied shut with faded ribbon. Scrawled across the first page were strange instructions claiming that a hidden treasure had been protected for generations by the memory of a celebrated composer named Thomas Jarman. According to the journal, only those clever enough to solve the clues hidden within its faded pages would be able to chart the course to the final cache. Naturally, Pete declared himself “a master o’ pirate musicology” despite not knowing how to play anything except a triangle.
Clipston Baptist Chapel is a historic and still-active place of worship within the village. It was originally built in 1803 on a site associated with a notable religious revival from the 1790s and is now Grade II listed, reflecting its architectural and historical importance. The brick frontage was later updated in 1864 and is notably substantial and formal in style, giving it an appearance more commonly associated with a small town chapel than a rural village setting, which makes it stand out within Clipston. It continues to be used today as an active place of worship.
With Kevin the parrot squawking badly off-key sea shanties overhead, Captain Barnacle Pete searched around the chapel grounds in pursuit of the mysterious composer’s memorial. After dramatically examining several entirely unrelated gravestones and confidently insisting one belonged to “a famous pirate pianist,” the captain finally discovered the journal’s clues truly did point toward Thomas Jarman’s memorial.
