About Seaton Park
Seaton Park Railway Station sits on the historic Grange railway line, a short but significant suburban branch connecting Adelaide’s western suburbs to the coast.
The Grange railway line opened in 1882, originally built to serve the growing seaside communities and provide easier access between the city and the beaches. Over the decades, the line became part of the daily rhythm of western suburban life, carrying workers, holidaymakers, students, and shoppers between Adelaide and the coast.
The station itself has seen several changes over the years, both in name and location. Originally, it was a stopping place known as Cross Roads, located just west of Simpson Street, now known as Tapleys Hill Road. In 1911, the station was re-named Grangeville and relocated a short distance south of Trimmer Parade. Then, in 1918, it received the name it still carries today: Seaton Park.
These gradual shifts reflect the changing shape of Adelaide’s western suburbs as roads improved, communities expanded, and the railway adapted alongside them.
While Seaton Park may not have the grand architecture or fame of larger stations, it has long served the local community as a dependable stop along the line. Unlike some smaller suburban stations that disappeared over time, Seaton Park remains active today, continuing to serve passengers travelling between the city and Grange.
Stand here for a moment and the line still carries that familiar suburban rhythm: trains rattling past back fences, commuters heading home, and the steady movement between Adelaide and the sea.
