About Woodville Park
The Outer Harbor railway line first opened in 1856, linking Adelaide with Port Adelaide and forming part of Australia’s early railway network. The line played a vital role in the development of the state, carrying passengers and freight between the city, the port, and the growing communities of Adelaide’s western suburbs. The extension to Outer Harbor, completed in 1915, further strengthened the railway’s importance as a transport link to both the coastline and maritime facilities.
Woodville Park station opened in 1879, during a period of rapid suburban growth in Adelaide’s west. The station took its name from the surrounding suburb, which developed alongside the railway and became home to generations of residents who relied on the train for travel to work, school, shopping, and recreation.
Although modest in size, Woodville Park has been an enduring part of the Outer Harbor line for well over a century. Through the era of steam locomotives, diesel railcars, and today’s modern services, the station has continued to serve the local community while witnessing the transformation of the surrounding suburbs.
Unlike some former stations that have vanished from the railway map, Woodville Park remains an active station today, continuing to connect passengers with Adelaide, Port Adelaide, and Outer Harbor.
