6 June 2024, noon-1:30pm
Join the GeocacheAlaska! team with an event to help kick off the Alaska Dept of Fish and Game Potter Marsh Discovery Day! Follow the trail to the NE (not out to the boardwalks to the south!) and find our table (and the event logbook) out on the NW side of the old airstrip, to the north of the parking area. Didn't know there's an old airstrip here? Well, come on out and explore Potter Marsh during your Saturday afternoon, and see what else you can learn during your visit to this family-friendly location! GeocacheAlaska! board members will be on hand to answer any questions you may have regarding the new 2026 permit details for caches placed in Alaska State Parks, too.
Discover Potter Marsh and some of Alaska's wildlife at Anchorage's most popular wildlife viewing area. This family-friendly event includes nature-related games, birding stations along the boardwalk, educational animals from the Alaska Zoo, a kid-friendly archery range, fishing practice area, fish from the marsh, and more. Please note, this location does not allow dogs to travel out onto the boardwalk viewing areas, so it's best to leave your canine geocaching companions at home.
Want to hang around after the event and continue to enjoy the Potter Marsh area? We are recruiting 'field assistants' to help GeocacheAlaska! Inc. present Geocaching to members of the public visiting Potter Marsh during this Discovery Day from noon to 4pm. If you're interested in helping people learn how to find several close-by day caches, indicate your willingness in your 'will attend' post. We're looking for cachers who can help out during one and a half hour shifts from noon to 1:30pm / 1:30pm to 3pm / 3pm to 4:30pm. You're certainly welcome to spend the entire day with us, or whatever amount of time you can, as we talk about getting outdoors and Geocaching. Based on previous years, if the weather is nice, we will stay VERY busy and need lots of help over the course of the afternoon!
