Dory was on her way to Marine Life Institute once again. I think they took the wrong turn.
The hint is a movie reference. In Finding Dory while escaping the aquarium she is trapped in a bag of water for fish transport and octopus (Hank) is driving the aquarium truck. To get to the ocean (in this case the river) they turned the wheel hard to the left off the freeway into the ocean. Thus you must go off the path to the left and look around from there. Search around the tree. She might be stuck somewhere.
