"America’s Dairyland" is more than a slogan in Wisconsin—it’s a nod to the many farms, beef, and world‑class cheese that define the state’s character. From squeaky curds to iconic Holsteins, this cache celebrates the traditions that helped Wisconsin earn its famous nickname.
The state is home to approximately 12,971 beef‑producing farms. These farms primarily produce beef cattle, contributing to a statewide cattle inventory of 3.25 million head (including dairy and beef cattle). Poultry, pork, and eggs are commonly produced as well. In addition to beef cattle, Wisconsin also has 5,100 dairy farms with 1.27 million cows in 2026. Their primary products are milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, and other dairy goods, with Wisconsin ranking #1 in the U.S. for cheese production.
