Šeit, klusā Baldones meža ielokā, Ķekavas upe vēl ir tikai šaurš strauts, kas tikko sācis savu 29 km garo ceļu uz Sauso Daugavu. Šī caurtece ir viens no pirmajiem cilvēka veidotajiem objektiem, ko upe sastop savā tecējumā — maza, nemanāma vieta, kas tomēr iezīmē upes sākuma posma raksturu: mežains, purvains, kluss un savvaļas pilns.
Ķekava (augštecē saukta arī Bakāne vai Ķekaviņa) sākas Baldones mežos pie Ģediņkalna, dienvidos no Skurbeniekiem. Augštecē upe tek cauri mežainam, purvainam apvidum, kas saglabājies ļoti dabīgs.
Ķekavas (arī Ķekaviņas) upes nosaukums ir cēlies no senindoeiropiešu valodas saknes kek-, kas nozīmē „liekt” vai „līkumot”, -ava - „tekošs ūdens”, „upe”, „mitrums”.
Slēpnis ir neliels konteiners ar logbuku un zīmuli.

Location: At the first small bridge / culvert beneath the forest road crossing the Ķekava River, approximately 1.5 km from its source in the Baldone forests.
Here, in a quiet corner of the Baldone forests, the Ķekava River is still just a narrow stream, having only recently begun its 29 km journey toward the Dry Daugava (Sausā Daugava). This culvert is one of the first man-made structures the river encounters along its course—a small, inconspicuous spot that nevertheless reflects the character of the river's upper reaches: forested, marshy, peaceful, and rich in wildlife.
The Ķekava River (known in its upper course as Bakāne or Ķekaviņa) originates in the Baldone forests near Ģediņkalns Hill, south of Skurbenieki. In its upper reaches, the river flows through a forested and wetland landscape that has remained largely natural and untouched.
The name Ķekava (also Ķekaviņa) is believed to derive from the ancient Indo-European root kek-, meaning “to bend” or “to meander,” combined with -ava, meaning “flowing water,” “river,” or “moisture.”
