Geocache Description:

Captain Barnacle Pete's Naseby Battlefield Quest

Naseby's Silent Sentinel

(the cache is not at the listed coordinates)

The Naseby Obelisk was erected in 1823 to commemorate the battle. Standing near the centre of the battlefield, it serves as a lasting reminder of an event that altered the course of English history.

The battle resulted in the destruction of King Charles I's principal field army. More significantly, Parliament captured the King's correspondence, revealing his attempts to seek support from foreign powers and Irish Catholics. When these letters were published, they damaged the King's reputation and weakened support for the Royalist cause, helping to turn public opinion against him.

Today, the obelisk stands as a memorial not only to the commanders and armies involved, but also to the thousands of ordinary soldiers whose lives were changed forever by the events of 14 June 1645.

As Pete pauses beside the monument to reflect on the battle's legacy, Kevin spots another objective nearby.

"The battle may be over, Captain, but our journey isn't! Hidden nearby is Naseby's Silent Sentinel, the Letterbox Hybrid accompanying this stage of our battlefield journey."

As Pete pauses beside the monument to reflect on the battle's legacy, he notices a weathered scrap of parchment caught beneath a stone. Written upon it are just four words and two numbers:

"23 degrees. 522 metres."

Pete grins. "Now that's the sort of directions a pirate understands."

Kevin flaps excitedly from shoulder to shoulder. "Then what are we waiting for, Captain? Treasure won't find itself!"

Following the mysterious instruction, Pete sets his course and heads off across the battlefield in search of the next stage of their adventure.
