Geocache Description:

Didcot GeoChat Series

After our recently placed GeoCache Series at Great Western Park, in central Didcot, and at surrounding villages, we decided to start hosting a monthly series of casual GeoChats in Didcot, hoping to meet like-minded local and non-local, old and new GeoCachers, sharing each other's caching stories and memories, discovering and exchanging trackables, in a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. There are also many GeoCaches nearby, so please feel free to find them before or after this event.

This monthly GeoChat is likely to occur during middle of each month, at weekday lunchtime. But this plan may be subject to changes depending on the feedback from the attendees.

All our placed caches can be viewed at this public bookmark list: https://coord.info/BMFEC4E

Didcot GeoChat #8 (War Memorial Day Special)

When: Wednesday 1 July 2026, from 12 noon to 1pm

Where: The war memorial garden in front of Didcot Town War Memorial, within the Smallbone Recreation Park, Didcot (please see the published coordinates)

There is a large free car park nearby, please see the published waypoint for more information.

More information about Didcot War Memorial, taken from our nearby multi-cache GCBAC6H:

The Didcot War Memorial is located at the Memorial Garden just behind the Didcot Civic Hall. It has a small grey marble column on brick stepped base with pitched top. The column bears bronze plaques with inscriptions and names. There is a Royal British Legion Badge on one side and that of the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal operation on the other.

The memorial originally formed part of the Edmonds Park memorial garden in Didcot (WMO/302157) which was created in 1950. It was subsequently moved to outside the council offices on Broadway in Didcot in 1960. Following vandalism it was subsequently relocated to the Civic Hall in the 1970s and finally to its current site within Smallbones Recreation Park in the 1990s. Smallbones Rec was designated as a Centenary Field as part of a programme arranged by Fields in Trust and the Royal British Legion to mark the centenary of WW1.

What: Celebrating the 12th War Memorial Series Day on 1 July 2026. This year marks the 12th anniversary of the War Memorial Series which started in 2014!

All attendees will be able to add a special celebration badge (see below) to their geocaching profile. This year, if you place or find a War Memorial Series cache, or host/attend a War Memorial Day event from 1-5 July, the badge is yours.
