Did you know that blue feathers do not contain blue pigment?
Their blue color is caused by a microscopic structure called structural coloration. When light hits tiny air pockets and proteins (keratin) on the surface of the feather, the light is scattered in a way that only the blue wavelengths are reflected back to our eyes, creating that beautiful blue color.
