🇩🇪Der Triceratops war ein großer Pflanzenfresser, der vor etwa 68 bis 66 Millionen Jahren am Ende der Kreidezeit lebte. Sein Name ist griechisch und bedeutet Tri= drei, Keras= Horn. Ops= Gesicht und heisst soviel wie "Dreihorn" oder „Drei-Horn-Gesicht“. Der Name bezieht sich bezieht sich auf seine zwei langen Stirnhörner und das kleinere Nasenhorn.
Mit einer Länge von bis zu 9 Metern und einem Gewicht von 6 bis 12 Tonnen gehörte er zu den größten gehörnten Dinosauriern.: ein grosses Nashorn sozusagen. Er fraß Farne, Sträucher und andere Pflanzen und nutzte seinen kräftigen Schnabel zum Abbeißen der Nahrung.
Die meisten Triceratops-Fossilien wurden im Westen der USA gefunden, besonders in der "Hell Creek Formation" gefunden. Dort lebte er in Flusslandschaften und bewaldeten Ebenen.
Würde der Triceratops heute am Greifensee leben, würde er sich wahrscheinlich auch wohlfühlen: Die Mischung aus Wiesen, Uferzonen und Wäldern würde ihm reichlich Nahrung und Wasser bieten – ideale Bedingungen für einen riesigen Pflanzenfresser.
Stell dir das mal vor: eine friedlich grasende Triceratopsherde, die wir aus sicherer Entfernung beobachten könnten.

Reaching lengths of up to 9 meters and weighing between 6 and 12 tons, it was one of the largest horned dinosaurs—a giant rhinoceros, so to speak. It ate ferns, shrubs, and other plants, using its powerful beak to bite off pieces of food.
Most Triceratops fossils have been found in the western United States, particularly in the Hell Creek Formation. There, it inhabited river valleys and wooded plains.
If the Triceratops lived at Lake Greifen today, it would probably thrive: The mix of meadows, shoreline areas, and forests would offer it plenty of food and water – ideal conditions for a giant herbivore.
Just imagine: a peacefully grazing herd of Triceratops that we could observe from a safe distance.
