Geocache Description:

Welcome to Church Plain in the historic market town of Loddon, Norfolk. This multi-cache invites you to pause, reflect, and discover a poignant piece of local history situated close to the churchyard of Holy Trinity Church

Prominently overlooking the market square by the western railings stands the Loddon War Memorial. Unveiled in 1921 under the fundraising efforts of a committee led by Mr Edward Cadge, this roughly 12-foot-tall Cornish granite Celtic wheel cross honors the local individuals who gave their lives during the global conflicts of the 20th century.

The front face of the shaft features a carved Sword of Sacrifice in high relief. Carved with imperishable inlaid lead lettering, the plinth records the names of 28 fallen men from the First World War. Following the conclusion of the Second World War, an additional stone slab was integrated into the granite steps below to record the names of 16 local individuals lost between 1939 and 1945. In June 2018, the structure was officially designated a Grade II Listed Monument to protect it for future generations.

(If you have time after finding this cache, step inside the 15th-century Holy Trinity Church to view the beautiful marble relief dedicated to Lieutenant Francis Cadge and Captain William Cadge—two local brothers from the memorial committee's family who both fell in action in 1915).

The cache is not located at the published coordinates but here you will find the memorial and two Benches. In order to gain the final coordinates you will need to find the bench that has a commemorative marker plaque dedicated to Victory in Europe. You will then need to convert it to the Date Format
