Geocache Description:

This cache is one bus ride from the Staten Island Ferry, with a 0.2 mile walk from the bus stop on Hylan Blvd and recommended for visiting tourist.  There is a TB box to trade, drop or pick up travel bugs.

Welcome to Blue Heron Park.  This park is named after the gray-feathered predatory bird with a yellow bill, the blue heron. In 1970 a group of citizens lobbied for the creation of a protected natural area on the south shore of Staten Island. The citizens became known as the Friends of Blue Heron Park.  Their hard work and dedication resulted in 155 acres being designated as parkland by the City of New York in 1984. The nature center opened in 1998 to the public. As of 2005 the park has grown to 222-250 acres of woodlands, meadows, ponds and streams.

Please feel free to visit the exhibit in the nature center and take a hike on any of the trails. It is a very beautiful and peaceful place.

THE CACHE IS ONLY AVAILABLE  8AM TO 5:30PM, ALL DAYS INCLUDING HOLIDAYS.

Attempting this cache is at your own risk.  The NYC  Department of Parks and recreation is not responsible for any action or consequence to attempting this cache.  Permission has been granted by the park ranger to store the cache in the lobby. Please be respectful of the area and do not disturb any other items,  other than the large yellow case or table cloth.  It is clearly marked and there is an image in the gallery. If any maintenance needs to be done to the cache, please reach out to me via the app.

The cache IS located at the posted coordinates, inside the Nature Center lobby. You do not need to ask the staff for permission to search for the case, but if they approach you please let them know what you are doing.  Look for a red little free library in the corner. The case is under the desk the library is on.  You may need to lift the cloth that covers the desk to see the case. DO NOT DISTURB/OPEN ANY BOXES UNDER OR INSIDE THE DESK. PLEASE DO NOT OPEN ANY OF THE DRAWERS. Please only touch the YELLOW case. Please return the case to its original hiding spot and replace the tablecloth to its original position.
