What is International Geocaching Day?

Since the first celebration during the 2011 Geocaching Block Party, geocachers around the world have gathered on the third Saturday of August to celebrate International Geocaching Day. It has become a special tradition that highlights everything we love about geocaching — exploration, community, creativity, and the thrill of discovery.

In 2026, International Geocaching Day will be celebrated on August 15th. On this day, geocachers across the globe unite to enjoy outdoor adventures, solve puzzles, and discover hidden treasures using GPS coordinates. Whether you're an experienced cacher or completely new to the game, IGD is the perfect opportunity to explore, learn, and connect.

International Geocaching Day 2026 Souvenirs

This year's theme embraces the aurora borealis, symbolising new beginnings, good fortune, and the guiding light of exploration.

You can earn two souvenirs during International Geocaching Day 2026:

International Geocaching Day 2026 – Finder

To earn this souvenir, simply:

Find and log one geocache,
Attend an event, or
Complete an Adventure Lab® Location between August 14 – 16, 2026.

International Geocaching Day 2026 – Hider

To earn this souvenir, geocachers must:

Have a non‑event geocache (excluding Adventure Labs)
Published between August 1 – 31, 2026.
