What is International Geocaching Day?
Since the first celebration during the 2011 Geocaching Block Party, geocachers around the world have gathered on the third Saturday of August to celebrate International Geocaching Day. It has become a special tradition that highlights everything we love about geocaching — exploration, community, creativity, and the thrill of discovery.
In 2026, International Geocaching Day will be celebrated on August 15th. On this day, geocachers across the globe unite to enjoy outdoor adventures, solve puzzles, and discover hidden treasures using GPS coordinates. Whether you’re an experienced cacher or completely new to the game, IGD is the perfect opportunity to explore, learn, and connect.
A Bit of History
The first International Geocaching Day took place in 2011, and since then it has grown into a worldwide celebration of adventure and community spirit. Every year, geocachers of all ages come together to share stories, hunt for caches, and enjoy the outdoors.
International Geocaching Day encourages exploration, teamwork, and curiosity — whether you’re searching in a busy city, a quiet village, or a peaceful park like East Park here in Hull. It’s a day to celebrate the joy of discovery and the friendships formed through geocaching.
