Bienvenido/a a un rincón donde el pasado y el presente se dan la mano… y donde, con un poco de maña, también puedes llevarte un caché.
Estás en las inmediaciones de la Torre Vieja de Alguazas. La base de la construcción es andalusí (S.XII) pero la fortificación en su forma actual de planta cuadrada fue ya terminada en época cristiana (S.XIV). Por eso es correcto decir que es una “fortaleza medieval con origen islámico”. Esta torre formaba parte del sistema defensivo de la zona, vigilando el territorio en tiempos en los que aquí no había GPS, pero sí bastantes preocupaciones por quién venía por el camino. Su ubicación no es casual: desde aquí se controlaban accesos estratégicos y se protegía a la población de posibles incursiones.
Con el paso del tiempo, la torre ha cambiado la vigilancia por la cultura. Hoy en día, este espacio se utiliza para exposiciones, actividades culturales y eventos que le dan una segunda vida mucho más tranquila (aunque igual de interesante). Welcome to a spot where the past and present meet... and where, with a little bit of skill, you can also find a geocache.
You are in the vicinity of the Old Tower of Alguazas. The structure’s base dates back to the Andalusi period (12th century), but the fortification in its current square-plan form was completed during the Christian era (14th century). It is therefore accurate to describe it as a "medieval fortress of Islamic origin." This tower was part of the area's defensive system, keeping watch over the territory in times before GPS—though there was certainly plenty of concern about who might be coming up the road. Its location was no accident: from this vantage point, strategic access routes could be controlled and the population protected against potential incursions.
Over time, the tower has traded guard duty for culture. Today, the space hosts exhibitions, cultural activities, and events, giving it a second life that is much more peaceful—though no less interesting.
