The Cross on the Hill near Benezette,Pa. is an Interfaith Memorial that stands on the hill overlooking the Spring Run Valley. The Cross is located along Gray Hill Road (also shown as Mt, Zion Rd on some maps) and maintained by a small non-profit, interdenominal prayer group but "Open to All" faiths to visit and enjoy. Many engagements and weddings have taken place here.
The Cross was erected in 1990 and envisioned as a place for meditation and spiritual healing. In 2014 a prayer walk was added along the brick pathway that leads from the parking lot to the Cross. The prayer walk features scenes from the Bible, cut out of Iron. The pieces of metal artwork were created by inmates at Fort Leavenworth. As you approach the 13'x 8' Cross at the scenic overlook, the woods open up with the Cross silhouetted against the countryside. Stand for a few minutes at the base of the Cross and take in the spectacular scenic view of the Spring Run Valley below.
The Cross on the Hill is open from "Dawn to Dusk" year-round and open to all to visit.. There is no winter maintenance of the site so there may be times when parking and snow may be hindered.
The site is free to visit for all but upkeep of this special place is maintained by donations. Currently a new trail (St.Josephs Way) is being built along the ridge with benches to add more views of the valley and quieter places to sit and enjoy the surroundings.
It's along the St. Joseph's Way Trail that the cache you seek is located. You'll be looking for a "camo stubby bison" hanging on the back side of a tree. It's about 10' off the trail and hidden out of site. Should be no need to detach container from the placement area. B.Y.O.P.... Please keep the hide out of sight.
