In 1907, the G.A.R. set up a committee to erect a War Memorial in the park. The monument was set in place in December of 1910. It was covered until the dedication on Patriots Day 1911. In 1920, the town appropriated funds to plant 13 memorial trees remembering the men who had died in service during World War I.
