A. Milky Quartz: A milky-white variety resulting from low-temperature crystallization, which trapped micro-inclusions of siliceous fluids. When the white color is highly translucent, it can be difficult to classify the stone as either Rock Crystal or Milky Quartz, particularly since this intermediate quality is the most common form of quartz.
B. Smoky Quartz or Morion Quartz: Smoky Quartz is dark—black, brown, or gray—yet translucent, whereas Morion Quartz is black and has low translucency or is completely opaque. Their color stems from the natural irradiation of aluminum inclusions within the crystal, usually caused by the surrounding (slightly) radioactive granite.
C. Amethyst: A mineral familiar to almost everyone, Amethyst is a violet or mauve quartz naturally colored by microscopic iron inclusions (iron oxides). Its beauty and abundance have made it one of the most prized gemstones from the time of its discovery to the present day.
D. Hematoid Quartz: This is a red quartz colored by iron oxide inclusions, such as hematite or limonite. It is also known as ferruginous quartz or "Red Quartz." Its name refers to its blood-like color—derived from the Ancient Greek *hemato-* (blood) and *-oid* (appearance)—meaning "resembling blood." When ground into a powder, hematite turns red.
E. Rose Quartz: Rose Quartz is a variety highly prized in lithotherapy (wellness and healing using stones) in its massive form; however, it is quite rare in its crystallized form. The color of the crystallized form is due to metal oxides (manganese, titanium), while the color of the massive form comes from microscopic inclusions of dumortierite.
