The Chedgrave sign was lovingly erected in memory of David Clarke, a highly respected, retired deputy headmaster.
The design is deeply tied to the parish history:
- The Crest: It is surmounted by a beautiful, hand-carved replica of Chedgrave's Norman church tower.
- The Linguist History: The four sides of the sign post feature the distinct historic spellings of the village name. You will see it shift from Ceatta graf, to Scatagrava, then Chattagrava, before finally arriving at modern-day Chedgrave.
- The Name Meaning: The root Anglo-Saxon name means "Ceatta's pit" or "grove".
You are looking for magnectic Nano, so you will need to BYOP in order to sign the log. This is a high traffic, high muggle overlooked area. Stealth is a must. The good ole tie your shoe lace trick may work.

This cache belongs to the Village Sign Series, a series of caches based on ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (generally on the village green!).
The signs can be made of different materials from fibreglass to wood, from forged steel to stone. They can depict anything from local industry to historical events. The tradition probably started in Norfolk or Suffolk and has now spread across most of the country so we thought we would base a series on them!
