Eén dag. Eén grote gemeenschap. Eén wereldwijde beweging.
Iets meer dan twee jaar geleden stelde Georeyna, een geocacher uit Houston, Texas, een eenvoudige vraag:
Wat zou er gebeuren als geocachers in heel Texas op één dag samen zouden komen om hun eigen gemeenschap schoner te maken?
Die eenvoudige vraag groeide uit tot een prachtig initiatief. De Texas Geocaching Association (TXGA) besloot een evenement te organiseren onder de naam CITO Across Texas, in samenwerking met World Cleanup Day.
Op de derde zaterdag van september kwamen geocachers uit alle hoeken van Texas in actie. Overal werden lokale CITO-events georganiseerd: in parken, langs wandelpaden, bij waterwegen, in buurten en op andere openbare plekken. Elk evenement was lokaal georganiseerd, maar samen vormden ze één grote beweging.
CITO Across Texas was geboren.
De resultaten zijn indrukwekkend. In 2024 en 2025 werden:
- meer dan 50 CITO-events georganiseerd in heel Texas;
- meer dan 700 vrijwilligers gemobiliseerd;
- duizenden kilo's afval verwijderd uit parken, paden, waterwegen, buurten en andere openbare ruimtes.
In 2026 gaan we wereldwijd
Dit jaar willen we de volgende stap zetten.
Wat begon met één geocacher en één eenvoudige vraag in Houston, willen we laten uitgroeien tot een wereldwijde beweging.
Daarom nodigen we in 2026 de wereldwijde geocachingcommunity uit om mee te doen. Waar je ook woont, welk type geocacher je ook bent en hoe groot of klein je groep ook is: iedereen kan bijdragen.
Samen kunnen we iets terugdoen voor de plekken waar we zo graag komen. We kunnen onze parken, bossen, paden, waterwegen en buurten schoner maken — en tegelijkertijd laten zien hoeveel verschil een community kan maken wanneer we allemaal op dezelfde dag in actie komen.

One Day. Many Communities. A World of Difference.
A little over two years ago, Georeyna, a geocacher from Houston, Texas, asked a simple question:
What would happen if geocachers across Texas came together on the same day to make their communities cleaner?
That simple question grew into something truly special. The Texas Geocaching Association (TXGA) created an event called CITO Across Texas, connected to World Cleanup Day.
On the third Saturday of September, geocachers from communities across Texas took action. Local CITO events were organized in parks, along trails, waterways, neighborhoods, and other public spaces. Each event was organized locally, but together they became part of something much bigger.
CITO Across Texas was born.
The results have been incredible. In 2024 and 2025:
- More than 50 CITO events were held across Texas.
- More than 700 volunteers took part.
- Thousands of pounds of trash were removed from parks, trails, waterways, neighborhoods, and other public spaces.
In 2026, We Go Global
This year, we want to take the next step.
What started with one geocacher and one simple question in Houston, we want to turn into a worldwide movement.
That is why, in 2026, we are inviting the global geocaching community to join us. Wherever you live, whatever kind of geocacher you are, and whether your group is large or small, everyone can make a difference.
Together, we can give something back to the places we love to explore. We can help clean up our parks, forests, trails, waterways, and neighborhoods — while showing just how much a community can accomplish when we all take action on the same day.
