Geocache Description:

Garden Gully Recreation Reserve

The Garden Gully Recreation Reserve has a rich history tied to the Garden Gully United Mine, which was one of the most successful in the Bendigo Goldfield. The mine operated from 1857 until 1921 and produced 444,336 ounces of gold. The mine's steel poppet legs were gifted to the former City of Bendigo in 1931 and are now located in Rosalind Park as a lookout tower.

Garden Gully was an area I spent much of my childhood watching my Mum play hockey on the grass and as I got older I too played on the grass feilds slidding in the mud after rain and getting dirty this was until the1990s when Bendigo got its first synthetic sand feild making for a much faster and cleaner game and then years later the synthetic water turf feild was built.

Bendigo has been lucky to have these facitities and has seen international games played here in recent years.
