About This Station
Eydon Road Halt was a small railway station on the Great Central Railway's link line between Culworth Junction and Banbury Junction, connecting the Great Central with the Great Western Railway's Birmingham–London line. Opened on 1 October 1913, it served the rural area near Culworth and was in fact closer to the village than the main-line Culworth station. The link line itself had opened in 1900 primarily as a freight route, exchanging over 60,000 wagons in its first six months, and later carried cross-country passenger services such as Aberdeen to Penzance. The halt closed on 2 April 1956, and the line saw its last services in September 1966. Nothing remains at the site today, though one of its wooden platform shelters survives on an allotment behind the Social Club at Woodford Halse.
