CITO Across the World - NorthEast Alabama
Time to Clean Up our Mile – it’s been two years since we got together to get the deep stuff off County Road 22 in Pisgah.
We will meet at Hollands Chapel Church-posted coordinates; (the logbook will be there) and start toward Silver Moon Farm, or you might choose to sign the log and park at the farm and pickup towards the church. I am also available to shuttle and pick up the trash collected in my truck
Update - The Worldwide CITO on September 19 is now in all 50 states with 320 published events in 46 different countries and in 10 Canadian Provinces. 1703 have posted will attends (as of 9/15/26), some for multiple events
When I was first contacted about hosting in late July, I thought it sounded like a great connection-Wow has this taken off in a great way. Posted the cache August 2, and this was one of only 6 states holding events. Thank you for participating.
When you arrive at 10 am Central, the log book will be at the posted coordinates – GCBVM5H N 34° 37.540 W 085° 50.871 Actually across the road by the sign for our 10 am picture
Sign the log and collect any supplies you need: I have grabbers, large trash bags, coated gloves, vests-(please wear them-CR22 can be VERY busy), and water/snacks
We will make a group picture at 10 across the road at our Adopt a Mile sign. Then you can choose where you’d like to park and walk to collect trash.
- Stay parked at the church GCBVM5H-there’s a cache there. Walk half a mile or so walking facing traffic and head back to your car. Leave trash bagged at the church. I’ll come pick it up
- If walking is tougher or you can’t stay long (there’s another event in Cleveland, Tennessee GCBWJR0 2:30-4 Eastern) Park at DTFH-Letters to Santa GC9YPWE, there’s a LOT of deep trash on this small section. Park at the gate or between the gate and CR 22-not too steep (I would open the gate, but the corn was cut a couple of days ago and the short stalks would shred car tires without knowing)
- Lastly, follow me (and the log book) to DTFH 2026-Santa Duck? For All GCBXCQM, I’ll open the gate, you can park in the pasture and walk either way on CR22
One Day. Many Communities. A World of Difference.
A little over 2 years ago georeyna a geocacher in Houston, TX asked a simple question - What could happen if geocachers around Texas came together on one day to make their communities cleaner? Based on that simple question, Texas Geocaching Association (TXGA) created an event named CITO Across Texas in conjunction with World Cleanup Day.
Geocachers throughout Texas held cleanup events on the third Saturday in September. Each event is locally organized, but together they became part of something much bigger. CITO Across Texas was born!
The results have been tremendous. During 2024 and 2025:
- More than 50 CITO events were held across Texas.
- More than 700 volunteers participated.
- Thousands of pounds of trash were removed from parks, trails, waterways, neighborhoods, and other public spaces.
In 2026, we want to take the next step and we are inviting the worldwide community of geocachers to help clean up our game board.
Let’s clean up our communities—and the world—one CITO at a time.
