Welcome to Overpeck Park!
I'm leaving geoaches at my favorite spots, this is the first! This has been one of my favorite places to enjoy a sunset walk with my kids, or run a few laps around the track. Many people in Leonia and surrounding areas come here to walk, bike, work out, and play sports. Overpeck Park is a wonderful oasis in this busy part of northern NJ! Please read more below about Henry Hoebel, and how he ensured the dream of this park became a reality. :)
Cache is a small, waterproof container with logbook, pen, a couple of trackables, and some trinkets. Parking will be plentiful at the northern end of the park, just watch for muggles! Special token for FTF! Enjoy!

🌿 The Florist & The Mayor: Henry Hoebel
Welcome to the Henry Hoebel Area of Overpeck County Park! While hunting for this cache, you are standing on a massive piece of transformed Bergen County history.
🌸 Who Was Henry Hoebel?
Henry L. Hoebel (1922–2000) was a local florist, a Bergen County Freeholder, and the Mayor of Fort Lee. He and his father shared an incredible generational legacy: his father oversaw the opening of the George Washington Bridge's top deck in 1931, while Henry oversaw the opening of the lower deck three decades later!
🗑️ From Trash to Treasure
In the mid-20th century, the beautiful park around you was an environmentally hazardous municipal landfill filled with garbage and old tires.
As a county leader, Hoebel fought heavily for the vision to reclaim this toxic blight. Because this Leonia section was the very first phase of the landfill-to-park initiative to be successfully completed, it was named in his honor.
