One Day. Many Communities. A World of Difference.
A little over 2 years ago georeyna a geocacher in Houston, TX asked a simple question - What could happen if geocachers around Texas came together on one day to make their communities cleaner? Based on that simple question, Texas Geocaching Association (TXGA) created an event named CITO Across Texas in conjunction with World Cleanup Day.
Geocachers throughout Texas held cleanup events on the third Saturday in September. Each event is locally organized, but together they became part of something much bigger. CITO Across Texas was born!
The results have been tremendous. During 2024 and 2025:
- More than 50 CITO events were held across Texas.
- More than 700 volunteers participated.
- Thousands of pounds of trash were removed from parks, trails, waterways, neighborhoods, and other public spaces.
In 2026, we want to take the next step and we are inviting the worldwide community of geocachers to help clean up our game board.
For the Riffster Clan, obviously I picked the Econlockhatchee River, a waterway near near and dear to my heart.
The posted coordinates are where we will meet, to pass out supplies, hold a safety briefing, tell some lies, and plan our shuttle. Ideally, we will leave as many vehicles as possible, at the landing, at the Snow Hill Rd Bridge. See the included waypoint. Ultimately, we need to get all the people, and all the boats, to the launch, at CR-419 and Willingham Rd. When all the shuttling is done, we will splash boats, and set off for an 8 mile trip, downstream, collecting trash left by the local rednecks.
Assuming we all survive, after we make it to the landing, we will load boats, fetch whatever cars are at the launch, and head back to the posted coordinates, for more schmoozing.
If you need a boat, let me know. I have a couple spares.
i will be bringing trash bags.
If you wish to join our efforts to clean up Momma Nature, but are unable to paddle, feel free to do your CITO at the launch, and the landing.
Hope to see y'all there!
