Tucked away in the suburb of Mount Roskill, Arkell Reserve is a small pocket of green area that has an open grassy area, lovely mature trees, and a escape from the surrounding neighbourhood. It's a great place for a stroll, to walk the dog, or simply enjoy a bit of fresh air.
The reserve is named after Daniel Arkell, a brewer and businessman who played a small part in Auckland's history during the late 19th century. After arriving in New Zealand from England, Arkell established a successful brewing and bottling business in Auckland. His wealth allowed him to purchase a large country estate nearby, and his name lives on today through this reserve.
